A visit after a very long time to Shringeri last weekend left me totally satisfied, mentally and physically. This place is probably one of the most tranquil places I have ever been to. Shringeri is in North Western Karnataka. It can be most easily reached from Mangalore or Shimoga (both of which are well connected to other parts of India by rail).

Bougainvillea

.. in full bloom in my colony. From afar, they are a brilliant sight. For an intruder, it is the worst nightmare.

They are thorny, woody, vines growing anywhere from 1-12 meters tall, scrambling over other plants with their hooked thorns. The thorns are tipped with a black, waxy substance that is easily left in the flesh of an unsuspecting victim.
